Portuguese term

em face da superveniência de impedimento legal

Portuguese to English Law/Patents Education / Pedagogy
Here is the whole sentence: A qualquer tempo, em face da superveniência de impedimento legal que o torne formal ou materialmente inexequível

Discussion

Fabian Deckwirth Jan 30, 2013:
Sure, that works perfectly. I personally simply favor sentences that explain what they want in verbal forms and avoid bulky legalese substantive constructions. But that's just personal preference.
Gilmar Fernandes Jan 30, 2013:
Ok, got it now.... I suppose my answer should have the word supervening in it, thus: "due to supervening legal impediments" the word does exist in EN, see: http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Supervening
Fabian Deckwirth Jan 30, 2013:
Superveniência Gilmar, "due to" could also encompass any already existing legal impediment, while "superveniência" refers to future ones.

due to legal impediments

em face da superveniencia = literally = given the occurrence of....

but that would sound clumsy in English, even legalese

Peer comment(s):

neutral Fabian Deckwirth : Not quite, as superveniência involves some later occurrence of a fact that wasn't there before

My understanding is that "due to..." covers that....a legal impediment that may occur in the future. I don't get your logic.

Also here, just change the sentence structure to make it easy for whomever reads your translation.
