What is meant by *indented* here

In a radiculogram (myelogram), dye that is opaque to X-rays is injected into the spinal column. When a disc has burst, the column of dye will be *indented* so that the exact location of lthe damaged disc can be identified on the X-ray.

This kind of diagnostic exam is, nowadays, seldom performed (TC or MRI are more modern substitutes).

The injected radiopaque dye fills the spaces that are not compressed by a bulging disc: if a herniated disc compresses a medullary structure this hernia appears as darker image, an indentation of the white dye image (see image below)
