French term

Palais Des Droits de l'Homme

Non-PRO French to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters French legal institutions
Can any of you learned law folk out there tell me what the difference is between the
Palais Des Droits de l'Homme and the Cour Europeenne des Droits de l'Homme? I have been
researching this but so far have not found an answer. My understanding of 'Palais' in this context is that it is a Court or Courthouse... so I am wondering if one operates at European level and the other does not, if indeed they are not one and the same thing? Although one would think that human rights matters should operate at global level! Awaiting pearls of wisdom.... thanks in advance...
Change log

Feb 5, 2012 00:33: writeaway changed "Field" from "Law/Patents" to "Other" , "Field (specific)" from "Law (general)" to "General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters"

Feb 5, 2012 08:26: Wendy Streitparth changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Hal D'Arpini, SJLD, Wendy Streitparth

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

French2English (asker) Feb 7, 2012:
My bad, the words 'knickers' and 'twist' spring to mind! But you all have to admit that the actual building in which an institution is housed is entirely irrelevant in such a context...
