Dear all,
What exactly is the difference between the words "Act" and "law" in the following context:
"The government will create an Equal Pay Act" and then a legislation to to guarantee that this Act becomes law"
I first translated "Act" as قانون but then came the word "law". So if you kindly have any suggestions.
Thanks a lot.

act: قانون -- to become law: تفعيل/ اعتماد قانون
Further to my note in the discussion field above, and the reference posted with it, it appears that act is simply a law covering a specific area.
I think the two terms to look here aren't "act" vs "law" but "act" and "to become law", as in both your examples.
Act in your sentence is a law that has not been passed yet. It is not referred to as draft/ bill/ مشروع قانون though, maybe because it's almost certain to be passed?
So: act = قانون and "to become law" تفعيل/ اعتماد قانون

act=تشريع law= قانون
في العادي نترجم
act
Law
هو التشريع المُفعل والذي أصبح قانونا بالفعل

مرسوم تشريعي
؟
أي أنه يصير معمولاً به رسمياً ؟
I'm not sure, though.
Thanks a lot.
"• Law is a generic term that refers to all rules and regulations passed by the parliament and are meant to guide the conduct of people.
• Acts are a type of Laws that pertain to specific situations and circumstances. They are passed by the government to let people know the rules and regulations about specific situations.

So an act is a kind of law. The only way I understand your text is maybe that in this instance it was used in the sense of "bill" or "draft". By saying "to guarantee that this Act becomes law" they might mean "to guarantee that the bill is passed".
My guess..
Could you let us know which country this is from? Thanks!
