Kraftsuppe

German to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
In a text about the comfort offered by angels, the book "Engel-Kraftsuppe" (by Jeanne Ruland and Judith Schaffert" is mentioned.

Does anyone have an English idiom similar to "Kraftsuppe"?

Discussion

Bernhard Sulzer Aug 1, 2010:
with franglish I was thinking along the same lines. The Italian cover

puts the emphasis on "Angels" just as the German version does (see Johanna's link); mean to say it's not about soup for the body but for body and especially soul.
franglish Jul 31, 2010:
@Trevor The title of the book is "Engel-Kraftsüppchen"

Jeanne Ruland (Autor), Judith Schaffert (Autor)

As such, I'd go for "Angels' Broth"

Chicken soup / Chicken broth for the soul

No reference to angels but these common terms come to mind, and I believe there are several books with the same title:

robust? nourishing? wholesome? hearty?

All typical descriptors for soup - not sure which marries best with "angel" though!

Power Soup / Power-Soup

"An Angels' Power-Soup" - with or without hyphen.

Here is for a Green Veggie version of it.

And here are more occurrences in Google.

comfort soup

I would translate Kraftsuppe as "comfort soup", a soup that is warming and hearty, that gives you strength from within.

Comfort food is food that is good for the soul, good for the body and good for the mind. Comfort food is food that picks you up when you're feeling down, reminds you of good times, and often brings back memories of food that you enjoyed as a child.

Comfort Soup
I confess. I am a "feelings" junkie. I live in a thick bubbling soup of feelings. I am not so much a thinker but a feeler. This rich stew of feelings is like a pot of winter evening soup, roiling and boiling.

Die "Kraft" der Suppe rührt - wenn man denn dem obigen Buch Glauben schenken darf - daher, dass bei der Zubereitung Engel bzw. engelhafte Gedanken mitwirken.
