: "aceptable" seems to the most commonly used equivalent. "bastante buenas" would be "pretty good" or "fairly good", but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

A mí me parece que «fair» designa aquí un grado superior al común. También pienso que de no ser buenas no vendría a cuento lo de que han bajado algo.

Discussion
Pienso que hablan de unas notas «bastante buenas» y no simplemente de notas corrientes. Si fueran corrientes no entiendo la necesidad de comentar que son corrientes y que además empeoraron. Si son «bastante buenas», es razonable que digan «aunque han bajado algo».
