English term

exhaust manifold to head bolts

English to French Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Electromécanique
Bonjour, je suis en train de traduire un gloassire de terminoologie electromecanique de l'anglais vers le français. Je n'arrive pas à trouver l'équivalent français de l'expression suivante "exhaust manifold to head bolts"
Ma tentative: "boulons de la tête (chapeau) de la tubulure d'échappement" mais je n'en suis pas tt à fait certain.

Merci de votre aide

Breakdown of source text meaning Since some of our contributors seem to be having trouble interpreting the source text, allow me to break it down a bit here:
"exhaust manifold to head bolts "

=

"bolts that are used to fix the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head"

Of this I am 100% sure!

Does that make it any clearer?
mahrez32 (asker) Jan 12, 2009:
Malhereusement, je n'ai que cette expression. Il s'agit d'un glossaire. Cette expression est sous la rubrique "Cylinder Head" c'est à dire "CULASSE".

Pouvez-vous donner un peu plus de contexte?

agree Tony M : NB: depending on the exact mechanical details of the system, these might be either 'boulons' or 'vis'

boulons culasse/manifold

* I'm quite sure, but not about the French formulation!
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : May be shorter, but I don't think we use 'manifold' in FR!

disagree Tony M : No, these are not bolts for the 'head of the manifold'! / Right, I see now! But where are you getting 'tête' from, then?

that's not what it says, I admit it's confusing but is meant is (vis de tête) du (collecteur d'échappement ) // I meant: what my proposition means is...

boulons à tête du collecteur d' échappement

Il me semble que "head bolts" se traduit par "boulons à tête".
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : No, these are not bolts for the 'head of the manifold'! / No, I've checked the Wiki article, and it is clear, accurate, and quite explicit.

If you are right, the definition of "head bolt" on Wiki should in my opinion be adapted, for this is confusing.

boulons de serrage du collecteur d'échappement à la culasse

Head se rapporte comme l'a dit Tony M à la culasse.

définition de "head bolt"

Je ne vois pas la traduction de "head" dans deux des trois solutions proposées, alors qi' il y a certainement une définition de "head bolt" sur Wikipedia.
Example sentence:

It also conflicts with common usage such as the term "head bolt", which is a threaded fastener that passes via clearance hole through a cylinder head to mate with a tapped hole in the engine block and is not intended to mate with a nut

Peer comments on this reference comment:

disagree Tony M : (cylinder) head = culasse; this has nothing to do with 'head bolts' as such / 'head bolts' SPECIFICALLY means the bolts used to hold the cylinder head onto the engine block
