English term

gastroschisis

GBK English to Japanese Medical Medical (general)
Definition from WebMD, LLC.:
Gastroschisis is a rare congenital disorder in which a defect is present in the wall of the abdomen. Typically there is a small abdominal cavity with herniated abdominal organs that usually appear on the right side of the abdomen. There is no membranous sac covering the organs and the intestines may be swollen and look shortened due to exposure to the liquid that surrounds the fetus during pregnancy (amniotic fluid).
Example sentences:
In addition, the intestine always fails to fall into its normal position and does not make its normal attachments to the back of the abdomen. In contrast to infants with omphalocele, associated problems are relatively rare in patients with gastroschisis. (American Pediatric Surgical Association)
The diagnosis of gastroschisis is usually made by ultrasound, in many cases following an elevated maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein test in the second trimester. (The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia)
Gastroschisis is an uncommon birth defect, seen in about 1 of 5,000 births. Although about 10% of infants with gastroschisis have an intestinal atresia in which a portion of the intestine does not develop, the defect is rarely associated with other genetic abnormalities. (Cincinnati Children's Hosp. Med. Center)

Discussion

Akane Tokisato Jan 15, 2009:

Example sentences:
腹壁破裂では臍帯は正常であり、通常臍帯の右に欠損孔がある。子宮内で腸管が脱出しているため腸管は浮腫、肥厚し、時に膿苔が付着している。 (MyMed)
Peer comment(s):

agree Yuriko Daikoku : MedDRA(臨床試験や安全性情報で製薬会社や研究機関が使用する用語統一用DBのようなものです)を検索したところ、PT(優先語)LT(下層語)ともにこの訳語が使用されていたので、これを定訳と考えてよいと思います

胃壁破裂(症)

Definition from 英辞郎 by ALC:
The disease is called "胃壁破裂症". And when you describe the symptom, it will be "胃壁破裂".
Example sentences:
胃壁破裂症:腹部の筋肉の裂け目や弱くなった部分から、腹腔内の臓器が外にはみ出してしまう。 (メルクマニュアル医学百科)
Note from asker:
I did see a couple of discussions, promotor being one suggestion. I am wondering about "seller", but exploitant can also mean "user" as in health care users like hospitals, it's tricky in English.
None that I found seemed exactly what I needed and I felt I needed further clarification in order to provide a reliable translation for my client, sorry to have annoyed you Phil. I do always look to Proz before posting a query.
Thanks so much, I got told off by one of the answerers because it has been posted as a question before but I didn't see this link in the other answers, maybe I just missed it somehow, but this was precisely what is meant, clearly :)
