Spanish term

conocer

Spanish to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Guatemalan slang (?)
I am working on a number of interviews that have been transcribed for an administrative case. Here is the context sentence:

"X, Y y Z se reunieron y salieron a tomar algo y conocer."

The thing is, X, Y and Z do actually know each other (they are co-workers), so I don't think it's a matter of "getting to know each other". From the context, I'd say it just means "to have a chat" or "to talk". Can anybody confirm this?

Hola, te cuento que decir salieron a tomar algo y conocer, no es conocerse. Conocer es conocer lugares o la zona o los bares si no se tendría que haber usado el reflexivo. Espero que te ayude la aclaración.

see the sights

I'd say it has more to do with geting to know the place more than one another, so a posible translation would be : " X, Y and Z got together to have a drink and see the sights" (sería conocer los lugares de interés)
Hope it helps!
