Hi Paola,

"Aeration" is the technical term for deliberate exposure of a substance to air. Careful with the spelling: it's "aerate", not "areate".

"Allowing the wine to breathe" is a colloquial expression for the same thing.

allowing the wine to breathe

This is usually the term used. You open a red to allow it to "breathe" even after decanting! In fact, decanting gives the wine a larger surface area for this process.

Also referred to as the aeration process but more commonly \"breathe\" is the way to go!
