German term
Zeuge
German to English
Law/Patents
Law: Contract(s)
Client/Contractor Agreement
The above sentence is from the confidentiality section of a German contract. This particular sentence is part of a list of items where confidentiality relating to client and contractor data and information will not apply.
Is it possible for data and information to be used as a witness by the investigating authorities? I thought a witness was always a person or do you think that the German has simply used the wrong word in this context?
Any clarification welcome.

witness

Comment: "Sorry that I'm giving only 2 points for this, but Tamas provided a useful springboard for me too and points can't be spread around. I was not happy putting "witness" on its own in English because that would have been bizarre, I feel. I ended up putting: "[...] is communicated to the investigating authorities as witness evidence.""
