El sentido de la frase que yo recojo no es "oportuno" sino "adecuado" lo que es acentuado al decir que es especialmente útil. Creo que oportuno no corresponde porque es un indicador no una medición, y un indicador me parece que nunca es inoportuno.

: Hola Vivian. Coincido en parte. No niego que se pueda deber a usos locales, pero en lo que se refiere a España a menudo usamos 'oportuno' como sinónimo de 'conveniente' y así, el término se difumina, pierde la precisión como ref. temporal. :O)

: Hi David. I fully agree, native source feedback is very often crucial. That said, I do believe that Gonzalo's idea in this case reflects the notion more fully, at least as far as common usage in Spain is concerned. :O) :O)

El término inglés que más he visto, en lugar de "timely", es "leading indicator". El AVH financiero lo traduce como "indicador de tendencia", "indicador adelantado/anticipado/premonitorio". Como digo, corresponde exactamente a tu explicación.

: A mí timely me resulta a menudo problemático. Es cierto que 'oportuno' es lo que dan muchos dicc. pero, al menos en España, el uso que se la da no suele ser tan concreto. EMHO, 'anticipado' aquí recoge mejor el sentido que se pretende transmitir. :O) :O)
