Or are you after something more sophisticated? In the context you provided, this should do, IMO. Like here, for instance - http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/wireless/excerpt/wireless_ch...
(At greater distances, getting the antennas pointed directly at each other can be quite tricky.)
