French term

Moi mes souliers

French to English Marketing Tourism & Travel shoe manufacturer
This is the title of a text that will appear in a Montreal shopping guide for tourists.

I believe it refers to a song by Félix Leclerc so I need something just as catchy for a North American English target audience. I was thinking of "These shoes were made for walking", inspired by Nancy Sinatra's "boots" but I'm not sure it works. Any other suggestions? It doesn't have to be a song.

MOI MES SOULIERS...

Discussion

Melzie May 18, 2007:
I think your idea is great. Why had no-one quoted Elvis yet??? ;-)
Graham macLachlan May 18, 2007:
Hi Pina, to be accurate, I think the translation should reflect the man (moi) and his product (mes souliers), if the latter were the only consideration I would say that your suggestion is great but perhaps the text that follows requires more of the title
PB Trans (asker) May 18, 2007:
My research shows that the correct song title is: These boots are made for walkin'
I'll change "were" to "are" but should I also drop the "g"?
PB Trans (asker) May 18, 2007:
Thanks! I wasn't sure if readers would get the title... substituting boots for shoes. But I see that it works, especially since these shoes are marketed as comfortable walking shoes (for both men and women). More suggestions welcome.
Odette Grille (X) May 18, 2007:
I agree. It is the best.
danièle davout May 18, 2007:
really great !
katy hannan May 18, 2007:
Just for curiosity I went through song and film titles with "shoes".. I really don't think there is anything better than what you have come up with- It sounds great to me !! go for it . Katy

quote

Hi Pina,

I really like your own suggestion as well.
However, if you want another take on it, you could start off the article with a famous quote instead of a song title. There are lots of great quotes about shoes, but my personal fav is this one by Bette Midler:

“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world."
— Bette Midler

For comfortable walking shoes:

Walk more than a mile in these shoes.

or

Everyone will want to be in your shoes.

Golden slippers

Especially if it's a successful business.

O', dem golden slippers, o', dem golden slippers ...

Funnily enough, while I was writing that they were playing "John Henry" on the radio, which takes us back to the "pointerolle" question.

There might be an issue of political correctness though, esp. if you go for "Oh, dem golden slippers".

Me and my shoes

I found this translation on the net, so...Thought you might want to know.

Me and my shoes have travelled afar
They have taken me from school to war
In my rough-shod shoes I have made my way
Through the world and its unhappiness....

Paradise it would seem, dear friends
Is no place for brand new shoes
So hurry now and muddy your shoes
If you wish to find redemption.
