Discussion

Sara Noss Dec 17, 2006:
I was just about to ask the same. ;)
Will Matter Dec 17, 2006:
OK. What is it about?
XiaoRan (asker) Dec 17, 2006:
Occupational therapists (OTs) help people improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments. They work with individuals who have conditions that are mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabling. ... (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos078.htm)

But my document is not about Occupational therapists or Occupational therapy

knowing what to do in an operating theatre

if it's not occupational therapy...
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : My first thought, O/T is fairly common for Operating Theatre

agree William [Bill] Gray : Quite possible, but we do really need more context to be sure.

Occupational Therapy

"OT" is usually an acronym (abbreviation) for "occupational therapy" and "know-how" is idiomatic English for "knowledge" (knowing how to do something, having knowledge of a skill). So, here it means that someone has knowledge of Occupational Therapy, they know about OT. HTH.

Old Testament know-how / or misprint for "to know how (to do something)"

This is merely a guess while we await the asker's response to the queries above. But maybe there is some reference to a biblical medical remedy, or some such, which would not always be know to medical personal, therefore there is mention of "OT know-how".

But as I said, this is merely a guess!

Or, could it just be a misprint for "to"? Check the context, XiaoRan!

Sorry about 2 suggestions in one answer, glossary purists! It's unlikely that you'll employ these ones! :-)

Cheers, and Happy Holiday Season to everyone!
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Thinking outside the box is great, Bill! But this is SO far outside it... ;-)

Thanks, Tony! I said it was a guess, perhaps it lacked the word "wild", or worse!! ;-). Still no response from the asker, I see. I like Sue's offering, which I see you have also approved. I'll join you, to show there's no ill feeling!

outpatient treatment

Kind of remembering your last question regarding procedure for treating patient after a surgery/an operation.

Why should there Outpatient Treatment Program?
Well, because the patient can be too weak physically and psychologically to do full recovery on his/her own, e.g. in case of drug addiction (psychological), in case of systolic heart failure (physical).

What is Outpatient Treatment Program?
It is a program designed for specific diseases/illness where the patient is strong enough to stay outside hospital but in need of assistance and supervision to get full recovery or just maintain his/her condition.

Just a sample info:
http://www.aafp.org/afp/20041201/2157.html
Optimal outpatient treatment of systolic heart failure has three goals that should be pursued simultaneously: (1) control of risk factors for the development and progression of heart failure, (2) treatment of heart failure, and (3) education of patients.
