English term

Does the sentence between **** sound right?

English Bus/Financial Finance (general) bond market
The fund ran an overall short duration relative to its benchmark which had a negative impact. ***But contribution from our overweight in A and AA rated bonds as credit did well against BBB's spreads had a positive impact***.

Do you think the English in this phrase is correct?
It is part of a fund report I am translating, and I find it awkward and difficult to understand. Is it just me?

word order and punctuation are a mess!!!!

Hi Laura!!!!! Nice to "see" you.

As worded the sentence makes no sense. There may be something missing, but it might just be punctuation problems or word order... I suspect it should go something like this:

ut contribution from our overweight in A and AA rated bonds had a positive impact, as credit did well against BBB's spreads

agree sarahl (X) : most probably. the last clause needs a subject.

thanks
agree Richard Benham : The sentence before is not much better. Actually the second sentence makes perfect sense, but is excrutiatingly clumsy in its grammatical construction.//Cf: Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.

Try this!

***But we were overweight in A- and AA-credit rated bonds, which did well against BBB's spreads, and contributed to a positive impact***.

The point is that they should not have had as many A and AA bonds as they had, but they got lucky and they did well.

This is not my field of expertise; I can only try to reconstruct the language!

Let me try and rephrase this, because I have a real problem with Marian's offer (not least her opening swing : "word order and punctuation are a mess"!)
We had too many A and AA-rated bonds as credit
Our BBB's were too spread.
But we got lucky, and the A's and AA's did well, and contributed to a positive impact.

Thank you!
neutral Richard Benham : I think Marian's version comes a lot closer.
