In any event, it was made clear to me that it's not a shoe horn, but part of the shoe itself. I also know that it's matierial, not mechanical (so much for the bionic shoe!).

I can't think of a great translation into Swedish either - the most clear and obvious would be "skop�s�ttare" but that has some really humorous sexual connotations.

As for the question if there are boot straps: This could very well be a strap of some sort, because, according to the doc, after it is used it is not visibly detectable even though it is part of the shoe.

Not really a shoe horn... Unfortunately, this isn't really a shoe horn. I realize that is the normal meaning of Schuhanzieher. But in this case, the word is being used generically as an "object that puts a shoe on." A "shoe horn" is a plastic or metal object, usually scoop-shaped. This doesn't refer to an object like that at all, but to a design function incorporated into the shoe itself - not even resembling a what people think of as a shoehorn. That's why I'm searching for a more generic rendering into English. Thanks!
