German term

Rückübereignungsantrag

German to English Law/Patents Real Estate
"Wir mussten nach dem Tod unseres Vaters hier in Deutschland die Erbe ausschlagen und so lag es an meiner Tante, *den von mir gestellten Rückübereignungsantrag* bei der BRD zu verfolgen."

This relates to an estate in Berlin expropriated by the Russians during WW2. I'm having trouble with the whole sentence, but especially the bit highlighted. TIA for any suggestions.

application for retransfer of ownership

sorry - not much time to research, but this appears to be the method to apply for restitution of properties appropriated e.g. by East German authorities (Enteignung)

After the death of the father they had to waive the rights to the estate and so it was left to the Aunt (who presumably got it instead) to proceed with the application that (presumably the writer) had originally made.
A bit rough and ready but I hope that explains - wish I had more time to help.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks all. It does indeed explain, and the "ownership" bit fits best in my context."

petition for re-entry

Real estate dict defines as: 'The right to resume possession reserved when the possession was given to another. Not automatic and court action may be required'.

Depends on the particulars. Could also be a 'petition for rescission' whereby a court simply declares prior agreements/change of ownership null and void and restores the original ownership situation.

Reconveyance is defined as: \"An instrument used to transfer title from a trustee to the equitable owner of real estate when title is held as collateral security for a debt. Most commonly used upon payment in full of a trust deed. Also called a deed of reconveyance or release\".

In legal terms, this does not seem to be applicable to your question

application for reconveyance of land

is my suggestion for the term requested by you.
The second part might be translated as follows:
... to pursue the application for reconveyance of land filed by me with the (government of the) Federal Republic of Germany.

should you have problems with "Erbe ausschlagen" as well, this might be "to refuse/to disclaim an inheritance" (Romain legal dictionary)

application for retransfer

I know this looks almost identical to Alec's. In BE we say conveyance for unregistered land and transfer for registered land (even if fee simple rather than ownership is involved). I translated a number of cases on this E. German situation and used "retransfer" - just for info.
