Spanish term

revisión (muy específico en este caso)

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Other CMMS
I know revisión is often translated as "inspection" (of an installation), BUT, I need a synonymous and I'm not sure "revision" is the right term.

This is included in a context of Compuretised Maintenance Management System/Software and my colleagues explained to me that in our CMMS application "inspeción" and "revisión" are not the same.

So I need a word for each of these terms, as all of them are different and included in the CMMS application, and they are driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Maria, your explanation sounds good. I just want to make clear that is a translation of a software to be used to maintain physical equipments. So "revisin" and "inspeccin" are conducted on physical equipments or machines. Would 'verification' fit in this context too?

Yo diria:
Revision = examination
inspecciones = check list

Gracias por tu comentario, Maria. Tienes razon.

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer.

inspection vs. verification

I believe your text is about verification versus inspection.
Verification is a very common term in this field, it is part of a quality assurance process in software and it happens throughout the development cycle. After a software package or a program has been first created, you look for any issues and report them; when they're fixed, you verify that they have been fixed.
Inspection is not as thorough as verification. For an inspection you have a checklist of functions and you fill it out with "yes/no", i.e. function A works, function B doesn't, C works, etc. In verification, when you see that B doesn't work, you go through a detailed procedure to find out why it doesn't work, what the bug is, how it should be fixed, and re-check in the end that the programmers have fixed it.
So you could say that inpection is part of the verification process.

Maria, you wrote: "that is a translation of a software to be used to maintain physical equipments. So "revisión" and "inspección" are conducted on physical equipments or machines. Would 'verification' fit in this context too?"

Verification includes everything, even testing the memory, testing the installation, etc. It's the whole process, including software and hardware. (I admit though that when it comes to installation, you will hear much more often the term "installation testing" than "installation verification".)
