German term

Pfaff

German to English Tech/Engineering Metallurgy / Casting
Am Fallhammer („Bär“) ist das erhabene Relief befestigt, der „Pfaff“.

I anyone familiar with embossing, who might know what this is referring to?

coining die

If it's to do with embossing, one meaning of "die Pfaffe" is "coining die" - "Pfaffe" might well be changed/abbreviated to "Pfaff", as the religious term often is (the inverted commas would imply that this is the colloquial way of saying it).
