Swedish term

ordinarie läkare

Swedish to English Medical
No context really. Just a heading on some patient notes followed by a name. But it does say that this doctor works at the VC (Vårdcentral)

I suppose this might be a GP, but am not sure.

Thank you for your help

Or maybe this was the patient\'s \"regular physician\"

agree Helen Johnson : certainly not 'regular physician', though.

neutral Mario Marcolin : I think the context is: the doctor that usually attends to this patient

hence the "regular physician" addendum

According to Collins, a doctor is \'a person licensed to practise medicine\'. And this applies to the UK among other places.

The patient\'s \'ordinarie läkare\' is not necessarily a GP, he could well be a specialist of some kind.
Peer comment(s):

disagree lafresita (X) : not in the UK, perhaps in Sweden you could translate into this term

And why not? Please explain.
disagree Helen Johnson : maybe in the USA, but not in the UK at least.

I agree, which in this case is not limited to being a general practioner, he could be a specialist.
agree EKM : A GP as I understand it is a position. "Ordinarie läkare" is the doctor the patient usually consults, or a/the doctor who is permanently employed at the vårdcentral (i.e. not a temping doctor - common in sweden today).
