Japanese definition: 各種のレースで誤ってコースを外れること。「コースアウトして失格となる」
I'm looking for an elegant way to say it in English - is there an official term, used for example during race transmissions, or do I have to use something along the lines of "skidding off course"?
Thank you in advance.

go off the track
This term is normally used for Fomular car racing. Japanese uses "cource" for it but they use "track" in English most of the time.

Note from asker:
You're right, of course (excuse the pun) - I followed the 和製英語 here for no good reason. Actually, in my translation I do use "track", but for some reason I wrote "course" in the question. |

Comment: "Thank you very much! I thought there might be some exotic term for it in racing jargon, but it turns out again that simple solutions are best :)"
