Italian term

anamnesi patologica remota/prossima

Italian to English Medical
It's really the words remota and prossima I want to be clear on.

I'm assuming they refer to something along the lines of "long term" and "short term".

Does anyone have experience in the above terms?

AFAIK

l'anamnesi prossima è l'analisi delle cause che hanno condotto il paziente dal medico, quindi la patologia più recente, mentre quella remota riguarda le patologie che si sono manifestate nel corso della vita, quindi pregresse.
I'd go for: recent and remote medical history.

disagree Sarah Naden : Explanation is good, but this is currently suggesting "AFAIK" as the translation, rather than the other suggested terms

remote/close pathological anamnesis/medical history

I think they are referring to the familial medical history:
remote and close - 1st degree - relatives. Close relatives include parents, siblings and one's children.

I would change close to \"next of kin\"

To complicate the matter, I have seen references to the following:

1. remote anamnesis = \"as far as you can remember\" medical history
2. recent anamnesis = recent medical history - last couple of years

however, this does not explain the Italian \"anamnesi prossima\", because, I have seen references in Italian medical reports of all these types:
remota, prossima e recente.

I hope that an MD signs on and gives us the scoop. :-)

Hope it helps

disagree Giorgia De Zen : No that's wrong, it regards chronological relevance: Lirka got it right here below, it's HPI and PMH.
