The definition depends on the context, which you haven't provided.
Providing context -- (a) general (b) entire sentence, (c) target audience /era / geography etc. (depending on the question) makes it much much easier, and often less time consuming) to provide helpful answers. And it's a fair exchange for our efforts. :)

Comment: "To all of you: Thank you very much for your help. I didn't provide a context because I didn't have any. However, I should have specified this. Moreover, I'm translating this caption into Italian but I rarely get answers in the German-Italian subcommunity. This is why I came here and this is why I give points to Tom Funke who provided different alternatives (in this case, the more alternatives, the better). For your information: in several multilingual sites the translation given is simply "processes". I have chosen "operational processes".
To Tom: as a grateful Proz.com member, I too "consume time" and make every effort to help other members, and willingly do so. :))))"

Not knowing the direct context, it's difficult to say. The information provided at the site listed below seems to indicate that "Ablaufprozeß" in a software context means the way/sequence in which something runs and, if you look at the occurrence of "Ablaufprozeß" there, could be translated using a form of the verb "run" rather than a noun.

I agree with the others without context
it is impossible to give an answer.
You can look at http://www.archmatic.de/glossar/amglos_a.htm for computer related terms. But,
I did not find Ablaufprozess only
Ablaufverfolgung (tracer/tracing) oder
techn. (von Arbeitsvorgaengen)=cycle
in Muret-Sanders. I also found many
others--which means there are multiple
possibilities, which one is right?--
only the context can determine it.

run-off process OR leaching
From what Ernst says about Ablauf, there's a good chance that this fits your needs. It refers to an industrial process where a mash, or other liquid-solid combination, is made to give up its liquid by running off. This is is the way sugar production is done.
There is a process where chemicals are poured over crushed rock, and the gold is leeched out. So if you have to use chemicals to extract, then it's leaching. BW, Nancy
