Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Stephen Sadie

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

as Nick pointed out, "between the ages of 10 AND 20" is also perfectly valid - may even be grammatically better.

agree Rachel Ward : Sounds more natural this way

agree Ian M-H (X) : If we don't have enough information to be more precise, this has to be the way to go. (If we did, Frank's options would be nice.) // Nick is, of course, right about replacing "-" with "_and_" ;-)

Thank you!
agree Laurel Porter (X) : Francis' "teens" is nice, but possibly inaccurate. Yours is the only one that doesn't make assumptions - works for me. :-)

Great, thank you ;-)
neutral Nick Somers (X) : I actually agree but "between 10-20" is one of my pet irritations; it should be "between 10 and 20". Sorry to be a pedant - please feel free to eat, shoot and leave.

i dithered over that for a while too - changed it back and forth - either works ;-)

in/by her (early) teens

Depending on when exactly in that second decade, BUT I think it's safe to assume they mean the first half of her 10s ...

- by her pre-teens
- before she had even reached her teens
- before she was even a teenager

- while still at (grade) school
(although far more speculative and probably too vague or indeed inaccurate)

neutral Ian M-H (X) : I like your headline answer, but worry that it doesn't mean exactly the same as the source (i.e. appears more precise but may actually be inaccurate).

without further info, my answer(s) was always going to be speculation ;-\
agree Trudy Peters : w/o the early. She could have been 16 or 17 for all we know. / That's why we should leave out the early. It's assuming more than the original says.

ta - but she could also've been 10-12, which is the problem here
