German term

Druckkeil hat halbe Überdeckung

German to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Wheel testing specification
Description of wheel test on biaxial test rig (ZWARP). Statische Vorbelastung Innenhorn
Vorschädigung Druckkeil hat halbe Überdeckung zum Innenhorn (inner rim flange).

Druckkeil - used to intentionally damage wheel before testing = wedge-shaped hammer? But what could be meant by halbe Überdeckung in this context. Sorry there's not much context, it's a table of test parameters.
Anyone familar with this kind of material?

I found "impact fin" for that: http://www.fachlexika.de/technik/mechatronik/mechatronik_ed....
But I don't know whether that is your Druckkeil...
Patricia Will (asker) Jul 3, 2011:
Further on in the text there is mention of a Schlagfinne mit volle Überdeckung - would seem to confirm the wedge-shaped hammer solution?
Christian Köstner (X) Jul 2, 2011:
If you can't find a reliable translation for "Druckkeil", you also might avoid it by writing "Rim is impacted with 50% coverage" or something like that. Your text is in a table of test parameters - you might assume that the readers will know about this process anyway...? Anyhow, just my two cents.
Patricia Will (asker) Jul 2, 2011:
Thanks Christian, that does help. So "Überdeckung" could perhaps be translated with "coverage" (elsewhere in document volle Überdeckung is mentioned, suggesting that the entire wheel is subjected to this impact). At least I can investigate now if they mean a Fallbeil with Druckkeil.
Christian Köstner (X) Jul 1, 2011:
I found this: www.reifenpresse.de/uploads/media/NRZ-2011-03-Seite-56-bis-97_01.pdf
"Beim sogenannten Impact-Test, der die schräge Anfahrt auf ein Hindernis wie einen Bordstein simuliert, wird das Rad liegend mit einem leichten Kippwinkel unter einem stumpfen Fallbeil fixiert. Danach saust das Fallbeil mit einem nach der zulässigen Radlast berechneten Gewicht (0,6-fache Radlast plus 180 in Kilogramm) aus einer definierten Höhe auf das äußere Felgenhorn."

As I understand this, the "Druckkeil (Fallbeil)" hits just 50% of the wheel in order to simulate the damage of a rim when you drive over a sharp side curb at an angle.
Another source:
"This test simulates the impact with a curb stone. A wedge-shaped hammer is used twice to strike both a spoke and the valve. " (Found here: http://www.aez-wheels.com/414_EN.0)

So, your wedge-shaped hammer seems to be ok.

I am not 100% sure if this is the answer, I had to google for a while but I hope I could help.
