Según el "Diccionario del Español Actual" de M. Seco, O. Andrés y G.Ramos:
Cultivar en su sexta acepción es: Cuidar el desarrollo [de una capacidad (cd)].
Fomentar: Promover o favorecer el incremento [de algo (cd.)]. Ejemplo: En Tánger, ...se esforzaban en fomentar la discordia de nuestros compatriotas.
Creo que nutrir es más apropiado para nourish. Es una opinión.
Se cultiva a los seres vivos, plantas, por ejemplo.

Creo que nutrida es más apropiada que fomentada, ver el "Diccionario del español actual" de M. Seco, O. Andrés y G. Ramos.
