toldo
This is the therm oftenly used in Brazil. Ex.: Toldos Dias is the name of a manufacturer of carports. Actually, toldo means the kind of fabric used to manufacture the carports, but the therm has expanded its meaning to indicate the entire product (that could be called "abrigo" too).

garagem
Carport is an open-sided shelter for a car formed by a roof projecting from a building. In Brasil "garagem" is the word for a shelter for a car, no matter whether it is an enclosed or open-sided space or even a parking space in the underground of a building. If you need to emphasize that's something rustic (tin-roofed and detached from the house) you could use "abrigo para o carro".

abrigo de carro
Creio que a Sílvia acertou na mosca; em S.Paulo, se bem me lembro, é abrigo de carro e não para carro.
