English to Italian Bus/Financial
Retainage is the amount of payment that your customer might withhold to wnsure satisfactory contract performance. For example you might agree to a 10% retainge on the amount you bill your customer. If you bill the customer for 100 dollars, the customer withholds 10 dollars and pays you 90 dollars. after your company has completed the workd satisfactorily, the customer rets the 10 dollars that was retained.

"Garanzia della corretta esecuzione del contratto"

This phrase seems wordy, but I think that it may be the most approprate solution. This term, or , rather, phrase in this case, is taken from page 816 of Francesco de Franchis' Dizionario Giuridico, and the English equivalent is written as "performance guarantee" or "performance bond".

I would think that "retainage" and "performance guarantee" are one in the same.

I hope this helps!
Best regards,
Andréa

ritenuta

Normally, you speak of "trattenuta" when the amount is withhold for example on employees salary.
Professionals instead must indicate a "ritenuta" in their invoices, which I think it's your case.

ritenzione

ritenzione can be used in the sense of "amount withheld" - "somma trattenuta" in Italian.

Cfr. Garzanti's Dictionary of Business English - page 244.

"Ritenuta" (in the sense of "deduction" or "witholding" is commonly used for taxes.)
"Trattenuta" can also be "deduction", retention" or "holdback pay", "recoupment", "checkoff", etc., but it is primarily used in case a deduction is made from s.o.'s salary.

Sospensione di pagamento (parziale)

Both "trattenuta/e" and "ritenuta" usually refer to a portion of the payment which is diverted to a different aim (taxes or social security or something else). I think the meaning here implies <momentarily> witholding payment, which is by no means what well-defined terms like trattenuta or ritenuta refer to. On the ohter hand, "sospensione di pagamento" without the further "parziale" specification would suggest a momentary witholding of the whole payment, rather than a part of it.
