English term

blow and hum

English to French Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks Électronique automobile

"You have to hum while you blow and it detects temperature of breath. You literally have to wait until it warms up to blow. It's a pain in the butt, I'll be on it for almost another year, I can't wait to get rid of it. It's embarrassing and costly ($70.00/mo). The worst part is that you really never know what it's going to do. You don't have to have a drop of alcohol and it could fail for another reason. And you are responsible for every fail, even if you don't know why it failed. If you ever have to get one, get a handheld breathalyzer, with fuel sensor technology (same as they use for the interlock) and test yourself before ever blowing. Be aware of everything that you come into contact with (spray sunscreen, hair spray, hair gel, gasoline.. )
If you smell something strange going down the road, it could make it fail, get out a new mouth piece before blowing and cross your fingers.

"How to deliver a breath test…
Remember, you (the client) and anyone else who will be using the vehicle must be trained
on a demonstration device while the interlock is being installed. Also, if someone else
drives the vehicle, YOU are ultimately responsible for all activity that is recorded in the
device. There are just two things to learn to activate the device: Blowing properly and
Humming correctly.
Prior to any test you need to relax, take a deep breath. Next, blow steadily while humming
into the mouthpiece for approximately five to seven seconds. Note the following:
• You should concentrate more on blowing than on humming.
• Extreme blowing pressure is not necessary.
• The hum tone must be delivered in a steady and continuous fashion.
• Deliver the same tone rather than going up or down the musical scale.
• You must say the word “do” continuously for the entire five seconds or it may
help to bite down with your teeth and seal your lips on the mouthpiece. This will
help generate a sufficient hum tone."
