My entire inventory of machines:
1 MacBook, mainly used for DTP stuff and graphic design. It has 64-bit Windows 7 OS in Boot Camp...and I run Windows XP SP3 on a virtual machine inside this copy of Windows, just in case.
1 Netbook, 64-bit Windows 7 OS, for travel but equipped for emergencies (4 GB RAM, etc.)
1 HP laptop, my backup, with all the software packages I have installed on my desktop

You have to have a backup system just in case. Always. ▲ Collapse | | | Two desk tops and a laptop | Nov 22, 2012 |
I was lucky when I found my first computer back in '09 (when I started expanding into freelance work). It was a refurbished high-end laptop that I picked up for $600. Today it still goes for over $2,000, gotta love tigerdirect.com ^_^
I also have a high-end "gaming" desktop which I use for translation, DTP, graphic design, 3d modeling and gaming, of course (which are my favorite translations).

I work with my laptop and keep a backup of everything in my desktop. Both computers with the same CAT tools installed.
Just to be on the safe side, they both have their disks divided, so my files are not affected if I have to reinstall windows. (Learning how to format your pc and install windows helps too).
There's nothing wrong in being prepared. Because when it comes to translations, there is always a tight deadline. | | | other...definitely | Nov 23, 2012 |
I replied "other", but for superstitious reasons...answering any of the other options would just have seemed like inviting fate to have some (more) wicked fun with my pc/laptop/pen drive.... | |

From the 4 laptops almost every day I use 2 or 3. If one of them is broken I keep on working on the other. Almost each month I make a back-up on my external hard disk/s. | | | Pages in topic: < [1 2] | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Do you have a backup or spare computer?
