- A type of Internet fraud whereby the “header” of an email message is falsified to appear to come from a different sender’s address. This type of criminal activity is commonly used to deliver SPAM email, or for the purposes of fraud. Parliament House, Victoria

- Per e-mail spoofing s'intende la falsificazione dell'intestazione di una e-mail che lo fa apparire come inviato da una sorgente diversa da quella reale. Coloro che fanno spamming fanno spesso uso dello spoofing nel tentativo di farsi rispondere dai destinatari.

La premessa del nostro discorso è quella di considerare che l'obiettivo principale dello spoofer è quello di entrare all'interno dei nostri sistemi tramite il raggiro. E uno dei modi più diretti è appunto quello via e-mail.

- L’e-mail spoofing probabilmente non avrebbe avuto tutto il successo che ha avuto senza Windows. Le vecchie versioni di windows, in particolare 95/98/ME gestivano male le estensioni associate a diversi tipi di files, per cui di fronte a files con estensioni plurime (come ad esempio truffa.zip.exe) windows tratta il file come un eseguibile (e gli consente di agganciarsi all’interno) mentre lo visualizza senza l’estensione (nell’esempio di prima la visualizzazione del nome del file sarebbe truffa.zip).

- Фалсификување на електронската пошта е термин што означува испраќање електронска порака така што адресата на испраќачот и други сегменти од пораката се изменети со цел да наликуваат на пошта добиена од друг испраќач.
Во името на македонскиот јазик, сметам дека фалсификувана е-пошта (или електронска пошта) е многу поосодветен термин од терминот спуф-имејл што исто така циркулира на интернет (за среќа многу ретко). Може да се сретне и еквивалентот измамничка е-пошта.
