- terzijde: Onderdeel van het drama waarin een personage een (meestal kort) commentaar geeft op een situatie of het door één of meer andere personages gesprokene, waarbij deze andere personages verondersteld worden dat niet te horen. Eigenlijk is het publiek op dat moment de luisterende partij, waarbij dus in feite de zogenaamde vierde-wandfictie doorbroken wordt, maar zonder dat de tekst het karakter van ad spectatores krijgt. Het terzijde komt veel voor bij het komisch toneel, omdat het in staat stelt tot een komisch contrast, bijv. door de tegenstelling tussen wat op het toneel tegen een ander personage wordt gezegd en wat (met een knipoog) tot het publiek is gericht. L'a parte è una battuta che un personaggio pronuncia presupponendo che gli altri personaggi presenti sulla scena non lo odano. In essa egli corregge o addirittura capovolge il senso delle parole destinate allo scambio dialogico.
