- Desertificação é o fenômeno que corresponde à transformação de uma área em um deserto.
O termo desertificação tem sido muito utilizado para a perda da capacidade produtiva dos ecossistemas causada pela atividade antrópica. Devido às condições ambientais, as atividades econômicas desenvolvidas em uma região extrapolam a capacidade de suporte e de sustentabilidade. O processo é pouco perceptível pelas populacões locais.
