Translation - English The image of the perpetually laughing clown from Ascona is well known. Even without his make-up he is recognized throughout the country. His one-man show has taken him halfway round the world, while in Switzerland his appearances, for example on tour with Circus Knie, will never be forgotten. Dimitri is still performing about 130 shows every year. He doesn’t only express himself inimitably with body and gesture, he also pours his soul into the playing of numerous instruments in such a way that it can seem like there’s a second character on the stage.
In his first film since the box-office success “Mani Matter – Warum syt dir so truurig?” (“Mani Matter – why are you so sad?”), Swiss director Friedrich Kappeler gives us an insight into the poetic universe of Dimitri the man himself. “Dimitri – Clown” tells us about Dimitri’s life and recounts some of his stories. It shows us how he lives and we learn about his career development, his role models, his thoughts, his musicality, and his ideas on poetry and of circus as a ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’ (a complete, all-encompassing form of art). Again and again the picture we get of Dimitri is of a highly spirited individual.

I realize that my rates (see my website) are absurdly high, but I live in Zurich! If I ever move to Berlin or the UK you will see these rates plummet. I have no formal training as a translator but consider 11 years on the job to be ample qualification. What I like translating the most: culturally oriented material. What I would decline: business reports & legal jargon.
Sorry about the photo.. it was the only one I got into my PC before the scanner died.
