Bio
I am a native speaker of Russian with a strong background in English language and literature.
Between 1993 and 1996 I worked as an interpreter and a translator for several companies dealing with telecommunication services, insurance and oil products.
Since 1996 I have mostly been involved in teaching English both at the higher education and secondary school levels. However, on a regular basis I have been doing the translation. For instance, I acted as an interpreter for the Liquidators of the Bank of Latvia, representatives of such Insurance Companies as Old Mutual International Ltd. (Ireland), Reliance National Ltd. (USA), Lloyd’s Brokers (UK), as well as at some official business meetings arranged by the Chamber of Commerce of Latvia, the Embassies of Hungary and Finland. Some of written translations made by me were commissioned by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Latvian Republic, by the Baltic Institute of Strategic Investigations and Innovations and by the Social Integration Centre of Latvia. In addition, as a researcher I have a rich experience in working with linguistic, literary and cinematographic texts.
I have no professional membership of any recognised translation bodies, yet I received a BA (1993) and MA (1997) degrees in English Philology and this qualification enables me to work as a translator and an interpreter.
Currently I am a part-time PhD student in Media and Communications at The Sir John Cass School of Art, Media and Design at London Metropolitan University. My research is highly interdisciplinary as it combines Shakespearean, Film, Communication and Music Studies. In addition to the above-mentioned doctoral research, I am working on a monograph devoted to Shakespeare on the Latvian stage.
