Source text - English The black car, the following morning, was clearly parked on a double yellow line and the traffic warden had no hesitation in writing out a ticket. He had just finished and slipped the polythene envelope under the windscreen wiper when a slim, well-dressed man in a grey suit emerged from a nearby shop, spotted the ticket and began to protest. It was such an everyday scene that no one noticed, even on a London street.
From afar an onlooker would have seen the normal gesticulations from the driver, the impervious shrugs from the traffic warden. Tugging at the warden's sleeve, the driver urged the official to come to the back of the car and look at the plates. When he did, the warden saw the tell-tale CD plate of the Diplomatic Corps next to the registration plate. He had clearly missed seeing it, but was unimpressed. Foreign diplomatic staff might be immune from the fine, but not from the ticket. He began to move off.
The driver snatched the ticket off the windscreen and waved it under the warden's nose. The warden asked a question. To prove he really was a diplomat the driver delved into his pocket and produced an identity card which he forced the warden to look at. The warden glanced, shrugged again and moved away. In a rage, the driver screwed up the parking ticket and hurled it into the car before climbing in and driving off.
What an onlooker would not have seen was the paper stuck inside the ID card saying: READING ROOM, BRITISH MUSEUM, TOMORROW 2 P.M. Nor would he have noticed the driver a mile later smooth out the parking ticket and read on the reverse: COLONEL PYOTR ALEXANDROVITCH ORLOV HAS DEFECTED TO THE AMERICANS. DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM?

El conductor arrancó la boleta de debajo del limpiaparabrisas y la sacudió bajo las narices del oficial. Éste hizo una pregunta. Para probar que era realmente un diplomático, el conductor buscó en su bolsillo, sacó una tarjeta de identidad y obligó al oficial a mirarla. El agente lo hizo, se encogió de hombros nuevamente y se alejó. El conductor arrugó la boleta y la arrojó con furia dentro del auto; luego subió al mismo y se alejó.
Lo que un observador no habría visto, era que dentro de la tarjeta de identidad había un papelito que decía: SALA DE LECTURA, BRITISH MUSEUM, MAÑANA 2PM. Tampoco habría reparado en que, una milla después, el conductor alisó la boleta y leyó en el reverso: CORONEL PYOTR ALEXANDROVITCH ORLOV HA DESERTADO A AMÉRICA. ¿SABES ALGO DE ÉL?

Dicen que Ricardo Corazón de León, es decir Ricardo I de Inglaterra, era un sujeto enorme, potente y temible en la guerra cuando tenía su famosa espada en la mano. Dicen también que tuvo por lo menos 500 amantes. Lo cierto es que siempre se exageran mucho las proezas y virtudes de los grandes personajes del pasado y con este Ricardo se ha tejido una figura de novela y leyenda con la cual es difícil establecer la verdad histórica y separar lo real de lo fantasioso. Si era tan potente como dicen, y si tuvo tantas amantes, es posible que lo fuese y las tuviese por estar casado con quien estaba. Porque casi siempre se habla de Ricardo y su vida novelesca, pero nunca se menciona a su consorte, Berenguela de Navarra.
Esta muchacha, según parece, era tan fea que ni los miniaturistas de la época, que siempre pintaban a todos los personajes de ilustre linaje mucho más lindos de lo que en realidad eran, pudieron mejorarle mucho la cara. Además de ser un verdadero susto de rostro, medía algo menos de 1.50, según lo narran los cronistas árabes que la vieron durante la tercera Cruzada en Palestina.[...] ¿Por qué, entonces se casó Ricardo Corazón de León, el todopoderoso, vital y espléndido rey pelirrojo, con ella? À l’heure de son cocktail, le Commissaire entend derrière son dos les frôlements révélateurs de ma présence au microphone. Sans méfiance, et bien que cette science ne soit pas prévue, il se met à chatouiller les boutons de son poste et à jouer la comédie courante. Mas, ô surprise, c’est une voix inconnue qui annonce, en excellent français, la mort de George V. Un peu gêné, il change de longueur d’onde, la même nouvelle revient sur tous les claviers, en anglais, puis en espagnol. Connaissant l’amour que les Britanniques portent avec raison à leur souverain, il coupe l’émission et, sitôt libre, se précipite au carré pour m’y faire de violents reproches. Il y apprend que je n’ai pais quitté la passerelle où je suis de service depuis quatre heures. Une rapide enquête dévoile qu’un de nos passagers, parfaitement au courant de la supercherie et de ses accès, m’a remplacé au pied levé.
Cet étourdi, qui parle toutes les langues n’a aucune peine à jouer mon rôle en l’améliorant sur le plan international. Nous rions jaune, mais quand Gaston vient annoncer d’un air lugubre que les sujets de Sa Majesté sollicitent le prêt de cravates noires pour assister en deuil au repas du soir, nous ne rions plus du tout.

Source text - Spanish Aquella plaza fuerte que empezó a delinearse en 1724, custodiada por murallas y bastiones, no fue erigida junto a la bahía por casualidad. Los encantos naturales y el potencial estratégico de esa gran ensenada habían hecho agua la boca del mismísimo Hernandarias mucho antes de que Felipe V pusiera sus ojos aquí. El puerto de Montevideo fue llave de la economía regional desde sus albores y pronto originó una rivalidad con Buenos Aires decisiva para templar el espíritu de la ciudad y más tarde de la nación. Con el tiempo se impuso como escala obligada para el tráfico comercial de ultramar, puerto exclusivo de introducción de esclavos a las colonias y Apostadero de la Marina Española, que desde aquí gobernaba todo el Atlántico Sur.
Translation - English That stronghold, that began to take shape in 1724, protected by thick walls and bastions, was not erected by the bay by mere chance.
