Innenraumbelastungen durch polychlorierte Biphenyle (PCB) sind bislang vorwiegend im Zusammenhang mit Leckagen PCB-haltiger Kieinkondensatoren in Leuchtstoffröhren bekannt geworden. Am Beispiel eines Schulgebäudes werden hier dauerelastische Dichtungsmassen als eine weitere Quelle für PCB-Belastungen in Innenräumen beschrieben. Der PCB-Gehalt dieser Dichtungsmassen liegt zwischen 12,4 und 32,7% Hierdurch verursachte PCB- Raumluftkonzentrationen überschreiten teilweise 1.000 ng/m 3. Im Blut betroffener Nutzer des Gebäudes konnten keine erhöhten PCB-Wcrte nachgewiesen werden. Eine konkrete Gesundheitsgefährdung durch PCB ist nach derzeitigem Kenntnisstand nicht zu besorgen. Gleichwohl sollten nach dem Prinzip einer möglichst weitgehenden Vorsorge Maßnahmen zur Reduzierung dieser zusätzlichen PCB-Be- lastung eingeleitet werden. Der Fall sollte auch Anlaß dazu geben, weitere Gebäude auf offen verwendete PCB-Produk- te hin zu untersuchen und ggf. einer Sanierung zuzufuhren. Obwohl offene PCB-Verwendungen seit 1978 verboten sind, scheinen in älteren Gebäuden noch größere Mengen davon verbaut zu sein.

Translation - English Indoor Pollution by Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) in Permanently Elastic Sealing Compounds
Indoor pollution through polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) have until now primarily been associated with defective capacitors in luminous discharge lamps that contain PCB. Using the case of a school building, this paper identifies permanently elastic sealing compounds as another source of PCB pollution in buildings. The total PCB content in these sealing compounds ranges between 12.4% and 32.7%, and concentrations of PCB in the interior air due to these sealing compounds occasionally exceeded 1,000 ng/m3. The blood of affected personnel of the buildings did not display elevated PCB levels.. As far as we are currently aware, PCB does not pose a concrete health threat. However, for prophylactic purposes, we consider a reduction of additional indoor PCB concentrations advisable. This case should give cause to search further buildings for openly used PCB products and to carry out any necessary sanitation work. Although open use of PCB has been prohibited since 1978, there might be a widespread use in older buildings.

Die Race Horse Company aus Finnland ist seit Jahren auch abseits des Atoll-Festivals ein von Veranstalter und Publikum gern gesehener Gast im Tollhaus. Sei es in Compagnie-Stärke im Abendprogramm oder auch als nachmittägliche Attraktion für das ganz junge Publikum begeistern sie mit reinster Leidenschaft für einen Circus, die sich keine Grenzen auferlegen möchte.
Dass für diese Truppe nun gerade einmal Rauli Dahlberg in Begleitung des Musikers und Live-Looping-Pioniers Miro Mantere angereist war, verwunderte daher weniger, als dass dies vielmehr als weiterer Beleg von Unberechenbarkeit und Vielseitigkeit gelten dürfte.

Translation - English Understated yet impressive
For years, Finland's Race Horse Company has been well-received by both organizers and audiences alike in Karlsruhe’s Tollhaus cultural center, even outside of the Atoll festival. Be it its full-troupe evening program or its afternoon performance for younger audiences, the circus is run with pure zeal and an enthusiasm that transcends borders.
This time, the troupe consists of only Rauli Dahlberg, accompanying the music of live-looping pioneer Miro Mantere; this brought about some astonishment, but many more took it as further evidence of the group’s unpredictability and versatility.
