French to English: Balzac - Louis Lambert General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Translation - English Louis Lambert was born in 1797 in Montoire, a small city in the Vendômois, where his father ran a tannery of average importance and counted on making his son his successor; but the disposition that Louis showed early on toward his studies changed his father's judgment. Furthermore, the tanner and his wife cherished Louis like one cherishes an only son and did not stymie him in any activity. The Old and New Testaments fell into Louis’s hands at the age of five; and this book, where so many books are contained, had determined his destiny. His infantile imagination already understood the mysterious depth of the Scriptures, could already follow the Holy Spirit in its flight across worlds, became uniquely besotted with the fictional charms that abound in these very Oriental poems; or, in its original innocence, his soul sympathized with the religious sublime that divine hands poured out into this book!

Years of experience: 8. Registered at ProZ.com: Jul 2016.
I have been learning French since the age of seven. After receiving by BA in French language and linguistics from the University of Arizona in 2010, I spent one year teaching English at a lycée (high school) in rural France. Upon my return, I taught with the Alliance Française and continued my education toward an MA in French Literature. I taught several classes at the University of Arizona, including online classes, which familiarized me with some of the technologies and methodologies available to distance educators today. Following my MA, I completed the coursework for a PhD (Summa Cum Laude), studied French psychoanalysis, and taught beginning French classes at Emory University. Additionally, I worked intermittently for one year with a company that translated educational documents (letters of recommendation, transcripts, and certificates).
Today I am hoping to break into the translation industry. I feel most comfortable translating into English from French, though I am available to translate into French as well for short and/or unofficial projects. My specialties include education/pedagogy, literature, psychoanalysis, and general translation, as well as dialectal Canadian translation. I am currently working to increase my knowledge of legal and financial translation techniques.
