In March CARE USA launched a training program for country offices to address critical gaps in staff knowledge and capacity to use the PeopleSoft financial management system.
The training aims to improve end users’ understanding of PeopleSoft and its processes, and from this understanding, enable staff to improve financial management and deliver improved financial results.
The on-the-job training should be replicable by all participants, and targets all managers, budget holders, staff who create or approve requisitions or vouchers in the system, and staff who manage awards, sub-awards or provide financial management oversight.
Country offices host the training sessions on-site in the head office, with members of the SSC, RMU, and DCAU joining the FMS team for additional support and problem solving.
By the end of March, the training team had worked with colleagues in Somalia, Jordan, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Tanzania.
In April the training teams will deploy to Haiti, Turkey, Ethiopia and Bolivia.bThe schedule can be found here.
One country director remarked that, “This was high level, high intensity, high expectations…and, I believe, excellent results [sic] in not only in terms of user skills but also in terms of reporting quality, understanding of roles and responsibilities, quality of data, [and] understanding.

The 2015 CARE National Conference will take place in Washington, DC May 12-13. This is an exciting annual effort for CARE, one that puts focus on our legislative priorities, attracts thought leaders from all sectors and reunites new and returning super-advocates to Capitol Hill, where they meet with their legislators to bring lasting change to some of the world’s biggest challenges.
This year we are launching as part of the first ever CARE Global Development seminar to highlight CARE' s contributions to the field.
We are also excited to welcome two-time Pulitzer Prize winning columnist and author Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, co-authors of “Half the Sky” and “A Path Appears.”
They will keynote on key issues affecting women and girls globally.
We will also welcome Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Secretary Burwell has led large and complex organizations across the public and private sectors, including service as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), President of the Walmart Foundation and President of the Global Development Program and Chief Operating Officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The Conference is one of the most inspiring events that we do, seeing everyday citizens feel the power that comes from taking action on behalf of the people we serve. I hope to see many of you there this year.

En marzo, CARE USA lanzó un programa de capacitación para oficinas nacionales para tratar deficiencias críticas en la capacidad y conocimiento del personal en el uso del sistema de administración financiera Peoplesoft. La capacitación apunta a mejorar el entendimiento del usuario final de PeopleSoft y sus procesos, y desde aquí permitir al personal mejorar la gestión financiera y entregar mejores resultados.
La capacitación debe ser realizada por todos los participantes, apuntando a todos los jefes, gestores de presupuestos y personal que pueda generar o aprobar pedidos o recibos en el sistema, así como personal que maneje contratistas, subcontratistas o brinde supervisión de administración financiera. Las oficinas nacionales albergan sesiones de capacitación presencial en la oficina principal, con miembros del Centro de Servicios Compartidos, la Unidad de Administración Regional y de la Unidad de Verificación y Cumplimiento del Donante (SSC, RMU y DCAU, por sus siglas en inglés), sumándose el equipo del Sistema de Administración Financiera (FMS) para apoyo adicional y solución de problemas.
