English to Polish: Ventilation standard General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Engineering: Industrial
Source text - English 3. Replacement. Any component of a building that is removed and replaced should meet the applicable requirements of Section 5, Systems and Equipment, of this standard for that component. An exception may be made in cases when replacing a component of like size and kind, provided all requirements of codes and standards used at the time of original system design and installation are met. For example, replacement of an air-conditioning unit with one of similar capacity would not require retoactive compliance with ventilation rates and other requirements of this standard. Unaltered components do not need to be retroactively brought into compliance except when there are substantial alterations (as defined below).
Translation - Polish 3. Wymiana.

English to Polish: Study on worlwide education levels General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Education / Pedagogy
Source text - English We give special attention to math performance because math
appears to be the subject in which accomplishment in secondary
school is particularly significant for both an individual’s
and a country’s economic well-being. Existing research,
though not conclusive, indicates that math skills better predict
future earnings and other economic outcomes than other
skills learned in high school. The American Diploma Project
estimates that “in 62 percent of American jobs over the next
10 years, entry-level workers will need to be proficient in algebra,
geometry, data interpretation, probability and statistics.”
There is also a technical reason for focusing our analysis
on math. This subject is particularly well suited to rigorous
comparisons across countries and cultures. There is a fairly
clear international consensus on the math concepts and techniques that need to be mastered and on the order in which
those concepts should be introduced into the curriculum.
The knowledge to be learned remains the same regardless of
the dominant language spoken in a culture.
English to Polish: An essay on T. S. Elliot General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English Eliot’s deep distrust of secular humanism—and of the socialist and democratic ideas of society which he believed to stem from it—reflected his critique of the neoromantics.
The humanist, with his myth of man’s goodness, is taking refuge in an easy falsehood. He is living in a world of makebelieve,
trying to avoid the real emotional cost of seeing things as they are. His vice is the vice of Edwardian and “Georgian” poetry—
the vice of sentimentality, which causes us not merely to speak and write in clichés, but to feel in clichés too, lest we should be troubled by the truth of our condition. The task of the artistic modernist, as Eliot later expressed it, borrowing a phrase from Mallarmé, is “to purify the dialect of the tribe”: that is, to find the
words, rhythms, and artistic forms that would make contact again with our experience—not my experience, or yours, but our experience, the experience that unites us as living here and now. And it is only because he had captured this experience—
in particular, in the bleak vision of The Waste Land—that Eliot was able to find a path to its meaning.
English to Polish: An article on Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his architecture General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Architecture
Source text - English Here Mackintosh discovered the poetic potential of emptiness, what the critic Alan Colquhoun called “spatial silence,” in giving force and expression to the trickle of forms that play across it. This is the common thread that connects the monumental School of Art to Mackintosh’s more intimate works, such as the four tearooms he outfitted for Katherine Cranston, Glasgow’s Temperance enthusiast who served “those who desired refreshment beyond the bar of the public house.”
Mackintosh’s most lavish interiors, the rooms were executed jointly with his wife, and here too the dense friezes of ornament or figures of stylized striding women were always offset by large fields of shimmering color. The series culminated with the Willow Tea Rooms of 1903, a decorative unity in which everything—furniture, fabrics, windows, lighting fixtures—played endless variations on the theme of the willow. It still survives, along with its opulent Room de Luxe, an upstairs Ladies’ Room whose walls are of lavender silk divided by a frieze of jewel-like colored glass.
Translation - Polish Mackintosh odkrył poetycki potencjał pustej przestrzeni, jak nazywał to krytyk Alan Colquhoun „ciszę przestrzenną”, nadając siłę i wyraz znikomej ilości form, które ją wypełniały.
