Bio
I am a native Indonesian from West Timor, East Nusa Tenggara, now living in Yogyakarta. I began working as a translator and interpreter at the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Kupang, West Timor, in January 2000, where I translated from and into Indonesian, English, Tetum, and Dawan. My great passion for languages has made it possible for me to learn more languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Esperanto) and use them for translating. "A Woman Called Lasmi" a novel by Nusya Kuswantin is the first Indonesian novel (originally entitled "Lasmi") that I have translated into English. I am the sole author of "Kamus Indonesia-Tetun, Tetun-Indonesia" (Indonesian-Tetum, Tetum-Indonesian Dictionary) published by PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama Jakarta in July 2007. Some of my translations (mainly poetry) are available online and in book form, including the Indonesian translation of the beautiful work of the Hispanic poet Alfredo Pérez Alencart in "Los Poetas y Dios: Encuentros en Toras de los Guzmanes" (Excma. Diputación Provincial de León, Spain, 2007). Recently I translated the poem "Dacă" (English: If, Indonesian: Andai) of the Romanian poet Elena Liliana Popescu into Indonesian, Tetum, Dawan, and Kupang Malay.
