Spanish to English: Spanish-English Translation of "Poema de amorosa raiz" General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
miraran levantarse las almas de sus cúspides;
primero que algo fuera flotando bajo el aire;
tiempo antes que el principio.
Cuando aún no nacía la esperanza
ni vagaban los ángeles en su firme blancura;
cuando el agua no estaba ni en la ciencia de Dios;
antes, antes, muy antes.
Cuando aún no había flores en las sendas
porque las sendas no eran ni las flores estaban;
cuando azul no era el cielo ni rojas las hormigas,
ya éramos tú y yo.

Translation - English Love was created first
Before the wind over sea billows rolled
And night, the hour of darkness tolled
Before the stars and moon ascended to heaven above;
Our innocent bodies revelled in the purity of love.
Long before light’s crescendo grew strong
Our souls, we watched ascend over mountainous crowns,
Before the dew fell in the early morn;
Our love was there, at the first break of dawn.
Before the birth of hope,
Or the treading of the angelic hosts,
Before God gave water to quench man’s thirst;
Even then, our love came first.
When there were no flowers on the beaten path
No flowers to bloom,
No paths to roam,
No blue in the sky,
Or red, the colour that makes lovers shy;
Our love came first-both you and I.
