I understand that this is literally the "Contracting" or "Hiring" of the Player.
However, I've heard the phrase "Signing" used when referring to footballers. Would this be more colloquial though and not appropriate for a legal contract?

The real question is prepositional, namely whether it is a signing-on or signing-up scene.
Otherwise, it is misguided to assume that Commission ought to be translated literally as a commission.
