Keep it short and naturally sweet.
I have done enough SPA/ENG coral reef video-subtitling translations - and visited enough times over the last 60 years - the Geology, now Life Sciences, Museum in South Kensington in London (England rather than Canada) to doubt that a layer or tier of natural life is wide enough to encompass a whole ecoystem, or narrow enough to be confined to a habitat.

Example sentence:
biome. A large community of plants and animals that occupies a distinct region.
Terrestrial Biome Type 10: Montane grasslands and shrublands

: Biome is fine too, but we already have three perfectly good translations. As usual, one of your references supports the previous answer rather than your own. And if you'd really been to that museum so often, you'd know its correct name.

what are biomes?

Biomes are areas of the planet with similar climates, landscapes, animals and plants. What lives in each biome depends on:
how warm or cold it is
how dry or wet it is
how fertile the soil is

The Five Major Types of Biomes
A biome is a large community of vegetation and wildlife adapted to a specific climate.
A biome is a large area characterized by its vegetation, soil, climate, and wildlife. There are five major types of biomes: aquatic, grassland, forest, desert, and tundra, though some of these biomes can be further divided into more specific categories, such as freshwater, marine, savanna, tropical rainforest, temperate rainforest, and taiga.
