Spanish term

Pericia Forense

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Architecture
I am translating a Technical Architect´s CV and in his 'Education' section he lists

Curso Postgrado en Pericia Forense

impartido en el Colegio de Aparejadores y Arquitectos Técnicos

What would this course be in English? bearing in mind that it was taken at an architecture and engineering college...?

Forensic Expertise

neutral philgoddard : I think the meaning is loss adjustment rather than expertise, which simply means skill.

If this is a course, then I imagine "expertise" would cover a range of possibilities, in the same way "pericia" does.
agree Taña Dalglish : Agree. I don´t think it is loss adjustment alone (I will post some ref. links).

Spanish term (edited): Curso Postgrado en Pericia Forense

Graduate-level course in Applied Forensics

Or, perhaps, "Graduate-level course in Forensic Evaluation/Assessment

The very fact that the course in question is part of a course of study in architecture and engineering would imply that the "application" in question is to those fields (and would thus obviate the unwieldy "Graduate-level course in Forensics as Applied in Architecture and Engineering," or some similar monstrosity).

As Phil rightly points out, while the term "pericia forense" could in isolation be translated as "forensic expertise," it would seem unlikely that the term would be used in a course title.

agree philgoddard : Investigation, in your first reference, would be a possible translation. But you wouldn't have the word "expertise" in a course title. It's like the French "expertise", which means survey, inspection, or expert witness statement.

Thank you. I agree in principle about "expertise" as part of a course, but I was also attempting to say that there is far more involved than just "loss adjustment". Again, in principle, R. Forstag's proposal would seem like a distinct possibility.
agree Robert Carter : Thanks again, Taña.//Actually, using "pericia" in the Spanish seems unusual to me. Perhaps it's not a word that'd be used in an English-speaking university, but in the absence of evidence as to what the course actually entails, we can only speculate.

Thanks Robert. While "expertise" may not be the 'asolutely' perfect word, you should be given credit for your answer (LOL!)./Precisely, (int. link: http://forum.wordreference.com/threads/aparejador.720278/) which suggests "building engineer".
