"had its day in court" does not mean that the matter is currently subject to legal proceedings. It means that the matter has already been deliberated by the court in the past.

"Had its day in court" is not the same as "has had its day". The former means that the matter has been previously reviewed in court proceedings. The latter terms means that something is no longer fashionable. The two expressions are not the same.
