The brain has a left and a right hemisphere. Each hemisphere is specialized for some behaviors. The two halves of the brain “talk” to each other through a thick band of nerve fibers called the corpus callosum. The band has 200-250 million nerve fibers.

Scientists studied patients who had the corpus callosum split to find out about our brains. Most of these patients had the surgery on the nerve band to treat epilepsy.
