Spanish term

por medio de la presente, se traslada a conocimiento de esta Dirección...

Spanish to English Law/Patents Government / Politics Public Sector Correspondence
I have found some previous responses to the term traslado but they don´t totally satisfy me. Or at least, lack one important characteristic.

The context:
In this official letter, government institution A is notifying the director of government institution B of a criminal assistance request that was carried out previously by government institution C.

From a line in the coming paragraph that reads: agradeceré....se requiera a través de sus buenos oficios a las Autoridades XXXX, se realicen las diligencias necesarias para...; I infer that the purpose of the official letter is to ask institution B to assume the responsibility of the process, since they require them to write "buenos oficios". An Oficio is an Official Letter.

In this context, I was thinking of translating traslado as transfer, since they are transferring the responsibility to a body with more authority.

I found "notification of pleading to the other party" as a word for traslado in a previous post. I think this could be accurate since they are "pleading" to the other body to take charge. But it doesn´t quite fit the sentence.

My try:
1. By means of this letter, I notify this Directorate about the transfering of the request for international criminal assistance to country XXXX.
2. By means of this letter, the request for international criminal assistance is transferred to this Directorate...

1 is very wordy. 2 I feel expresses the idea better, since the new Directorate has to start correspondence now.

THX!!!

I'd like to thank everybody. Sorry I can't give you all points. Cheers.

@Andrés No, that's fine, it's good to post more of the context. Wilsonn's point concerns the question title itself, which is supposed to be kept to a minimum. Sometimes long questions such as this are removed by the moderators.
You could probably reduce it to "se traslada a conocimiento" and then simply post the rest of the sentence as context.

Complete sentence - I´m sorry if it is too long Por medio de la presente comunicación, me permito hacer de su conocimiento que mediante oficio xxxx, recibido por xxx, firmado por xxxx, se traslada a conocimiento de esta Dirección la Solicitud de Asistencia Penal Internacional cursada a las autoridades competentes de xxxx en el caso de xxxxx.

Perdón si es larga, la subí ya que Robert y Philgoddard me lo solicitaron.
Gracias a todos.

I agree that we can't answer this without the Spanish. Also, we wouldn't say "by means of this letter". It's "hereby". And "this directorate" sounds wrong, too.

Hi Andrés, could you post the complete source sentence?

I am hereby providing your Department with a copy of... [for informative purposes]

Yes, it is a notification of sorts, but as I imagined to begin with, I take the use of "trasladar" here to mean that a copy of the document in question is also being provided.
To me, the phrasing suggests that it's a cover letter containing a document that is required (possibly by law) to be made known to one of these government departments.
"esta Dirección" I believe refers to the addressee of the letter, so you can use "your office", "your directorate", "your department" or whatever term you feel best describes the government department in question.

The sentence you posted is worded slightly different to the question you posted, so I believe the gist of that sentence is this:

"I hereby inform you that, for information purposes, your Department has now been provided with a copy of official letter xxxx, received by xxx, signed by xxxx, containing the International Criminal Assistance Request sent to the proper authorities of xxxx in the case of xxxxx."

you are hereby informed

I think trasladar a conocimiento simply means inform.

"You" means the office. Your office is hereby informed....

In translating this kind of material you have to decide how much you're going to reproduce the jargon and how much you're going to give the meaning, and put that in a good sentence.

agree philgoddard : Or even just "please note". This is good - you've cut out the dead wood.
