Spanish term

tiempo de sueño

Spanish to English Other Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
Muchas gracias!

Discussion

liz askew Mar 3, 2011:
@David, call me anything you like (!!), but I hadn't really gone into the deeper meaning, but had just stuck to the literal approach.
David Brown Mar 3, 2011:
Sleep time Seems a bit of a strange way to conduct experiments on the toxicity of a drug. The longer the sleep time the more powerful the effect, and if they don't wake up their dead?
DLyons Mar 3, 2011:
"Sleep time" seems unlikely. Some more context would help. It might be related to something like "half life" of toxins in organisms? "relaxation time" might also be a possibility.

Thank you!
neutral DLyons : In this case my feeling is that the "sleep" refers to the toxin rather than the organism being drowsy. But it's hard to tell without more context!

neutral DLyons : Possible, but again I'd have expected but "período de latencia" if "dormant period" was meant.

latent period

Because metabolism of the parent compound is required for toxicity, the latent period reflects the time required for the toxic metabolites to accumulate

Latent period it is not,

But it appears it may be "recovery time"

Prediction intervals, which take the covariation between parameters into account, were calculated for bioaccumulation factors, organism recovery time and simulations of internal concentrations as well as the time-course of survival under variable exposure. Organism recovery time was 28 days (95% prediction interval 25-31 days), indicating the possibility for carry-over toxicity from exposure events several weeks apart. The slow organism recovery and carry-over toxicity was caused by slow toxicodynamic recovery; toxicokinetic processes alone would have resulted in a recovery time of only 1-2 days

Sounds more like it
Peer comment(s):

neutral DLyons : This makes sense but "período de latencia" is so standard that I wonder why use "tiempo de sueño"?
